Server error: cannot open file ......\_vti_pvt\....for writing

I am using FrontPage from the MS Office Premium 2000 in the Windows ME
operating system.

Short description of difficulty: I had to restore my hard drive to the
factory settings. I was able to save my web docs on CD. After restoring,
updating, downloading, and installing all the Windows and Office updates, I
attempted to update some FP files. When I tried to save the files, the
error message below was displayed:

Server error: Cannot open file "C:\my documents\my
webs\_vti_pvt\service.lck" for writing

After attempting to resolve this with the information and instruction
obtained via Microsoft's website, deleting the files with *.lck, I am still
unable to save edited web pages.

Please help. I am a novice at this and do not want to mess anything up if I
go further. Thank you for your suggestions.

You need to delete the web folder/file you copied from the CD, then do the
following:

Copy the web files to a folder on your HD first from the CD, then open this
folder in Windows Explorer, select all files, then un-check the read-only
attribute. Next open the folder directly via FP, then publish to the final
location on your HD.
