Sent Messages remain in Outbox

One of my clients is using Outlook 2003. Whenever they send an email
message, the message is sent but remains in the outbox without ever going to
the sent items folder. I deleted the mail profile and re-created it. The
first 3-5 messages worked fine, then it began happening again.

Most often caused by scanning outgoing messages with an antivirus program.
