Outlook 2000 - Outbox/Sent Messages

Just recently, my Outlook (2000) has started acting oddly. When I send a
message, it goes into the Outbox, but never leaves the Outbox - despite being
sent. While the message remains in the Outbox - it also does not appear in
the Sent folder - though it has been sent.

Now I have lost the ability to track sent mail as well as determine whether
a mail item has been sent or not (as it remains in the Outbox stating that it
has not yet been sent - when it has been!!!).

What is going on???? This just started happening out of the blue. I have
rebooted my PC, but this has not helped. I am running Windows XP PRO SP2.....

Hi Eric... I have a similiar problem... I have two e-mails stuck in my outbox
and when I go into outlook 2000 it says connnecting to server but it just
sits there and won't let me do anything ????..... Have you experienced that
???...

I have had that problem in the past. most of the time it seems as though it
was due to a bad email address.

In my case, the emails <ARE BEING SENT> - but the Outbox says they are not
and the Send folder does not reflect that they have been sent.....

yes I am using a PST - it's size is 153MB.
Why - does the size of a PST impact mail being sent??

Also - while I am using a personal PST - the outbox, inbox, and sent box are
part of Outlook - how does a PST file holding my personal emails effect these
core folders??

So - my folders look like this:
OUTLOOK TODAY
--Deleted Items
--Drafts
--Inbox
--Outbox
--Sent Items
PERSONAL FOLDERS (PST)
-- etc...
-- etc...

The PST is a file you can back up which means saving data. If you use an
Exchange server (usually found in a business environment) and have a cap on
your mailbox size, exporting mail to a PST can save you some headaches.
However with Outlook 2002 and older, the PST is capped at a 2 gb max size.
After that size it can corrupt easily, often rendering the data unusable or
irretrievable. This PST can get to be unstable once it hits the 1.5 gb size.
At that point you may want to create another PST.
If you are a home user and all mail is stored in your PST, if the PST
becomes unstable this can be the source of alot of problems, which may or may
not include sending and receiving.

Do you scan your mail with an antivirus scanner? If so, disable that
feature.
