Search Companion not working on some accounts

The Windows Explorer Search Companion works for some accounts (XP SP2) but
not all. On the offending accounts clicking the search button opens an empty
serach bar with "Close" as the only right-click option. I've reinstalled
srchassnt.inf as suggested elsewhere, even temporarily giving the offending
accounts Admin rights so I could install when logged on to the account. Any
ideas?

Sandi - thanks for your suggestion. It didn't solve the problem, but I'm
puzzled as to why the problem appears on some (non-Admin) accounts, but not

Hi John,

The search assistant and the search customization wizards have been
undergoing some maintenance lately(see previous posts). These functions use
the locale settings to direct to different pages (different search providers
for different locales), that is why there is diffent behaviors on different
user accounts.

Set your locals to en-us as this is the most stable at the moment, though
there are still issues the last time I checked.

Regards.

You may also need to reset it from Search Assistant
(or even more problematically from a specific search provider.)

E.g. what happens if you open srchcust and choose Search Companion?

FWIW I was having script error problems with that page
before I tried the above regsvr32 command. YMMV.
