Search Companion lock ups XP SP2

G

Guest

After updating to Windows XP SP2 my Search Companion will lock up IE 6.0 SP1
during a search.
If turn on Search Companion and do a search it just hangs with an hour glass
and never moves.
If I switch to Search Classic it works just fine. I have tried running all
the updates and reloading SP2 and nothing seems to work. Any Ideas?

If you have WinXP SP2 then IE6 is also SP2.
First eliminate any spyware.

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stact. Before
you try to remove spyware using any of these programs , download a copy of

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

I have just reloaded everything. Windows XP SP2. Ran all the updates. Ran
adaware, CWShredder, and hijackThis and finding no malware. I can surf just
fine if i am not using search companion. When I turn on search companion and
click search it locks up. It will sit for about 15 minutes before the page
gives me the page cannot be displayed error. If it sits for more that 15
minutes it will never do anything.

Search companion may have tie-ins with Office, thanks to the animated
character that is used by SC. Before we go any further, do you have Office
or any part thereof on your machine, and if so, what version?

I do have Office 2000 Professional. I have choosen not to use the animated
character and not to show balloon tips. After changeing all these settings I
still get the lockups.
