Saving Icon positions on the Desktop

Presently I use Iconoid to save my desktop Icon positions. This can be
unstable at times resulting in having to reposition all my Icons. What
is a really stable and reliable programme for saving my desktop Icons in
a permanent position on my desktop please. Obviously I use XP and up to
now I have had my Icons scattered to the winds by any unusual action on
my part, it can be very annoying and time consuming.

XP should save your icon positions automatically. If it's not then you have
something else wrong with your setup. I'd try to fix the problem instead of
hiding it with a third party app. Start with updating video drivers and
installing all xp patches.

Check to see if Auto Arrange or Align to Grid are checked under Align Icons
By when right clicking on the desktop. Uncheck them if they are checked and
see if Iconoid will restore the icons to their positions. If that does not
work try Restore Desktop 2.0 from www.softwarium.com. Its free. I don't
know of any program that will save icon positions when such things as the
screen resolution being changed are done. But Iconoid or Restore Desktop
should restore them to the original positions.
