Restore desktop icon positions

Is there a way to restore desktop icon positions? I changed fro small icons
to large icons, and it moved all of the icons around. I decided that I
didn't like that, so I went back to small icons. However, it left them at
their new position. I'd like to get them back to their old position
automatically. System restore doesn't do it. Is there a way to do it?

Right click the Desktop/Arrange Icons by.......

I don't see anything about restoring them to the way I had them. Will "lock
items on desktop" prevent this problem from happening again?
