Save as xml does not work

Windows XP PRO
I.e. Version 6.0.2900.2180

I can view certain xml files in the nice tree like form that I.E.
provides. When i try to save as xml (or any type of file...like .txt),
the save dialgogue shows up and when I click save, the file is just not
created!!! No matter where I save it to, it does not work.

Also when I try to veiw source, I get the error "The Xml source file is
unavailable for viewing.

Hi

What program do you have installed that is associated with these files? In
other words, once they are saved to your hard drive, what program will you
use to view them, or access them? Do you have any of these files on your
hard drive now?

This can also happen if the source of the file is from an active page such
as .asp/.aspx

I am a little confused. The xml does come from an active page, but why
would this matter?? Is there anyway to save or view the source?
Currently I have to use FireFox and view source, but I would really
like to be able to save it from I.E.

I have xml spy. The probalem is that the files are not being saved at
all! There is nothing there after a save....
