SAFE MODE SOUND

My computer is kind of slow 128 mb ram (DDR) and i am running windows xp
home. I like to play Counter Strike, but it is way too slow in the normal
mode, so I decided to play it in safe mode. I have one problem, the sound is
not working in safe mode. Any suggestion as to how to make that sound work
(the sound works fine in the normal windows mode).

Safe Mode loads with minimal drivers. This is by design. It is unlikely that
you can get your sound card to function in Safe Mode. While RAM prices have
gone up it is still possible to purchase another 128 MB of RAM at a very
reasonable price. Double the RAM at least.

128mgs of RAM is the minimum requirement for XP, so (I would assume) that is
almost all of your problem. I would at least add another 128, to a total of
256, that seems to run XP well sans any other apllications running at the
same time; 512 is perfect. In any case, your sound won't work in Safe Mode,
because when one boots into that mode, most device drivers (IE, VIDEO,
SOUND) are disengaged, and will not function, including the internet, so you
are essentially running a very basic desltop enviroment there. Safe Mode is
primarily used to troubleshoot problems with hardware, or to get oneself out
of a sticky situation.

I'm surprised that is all that is not working in Safe Mode. You only get 8
bit color in safe mode also. I agree with everyone else look at getting
some more memory. You might also want to look and see if you have a lot of
programs running in the notification area of your task bar. You might also
want to defrag your hard drive. Right click on your hard drive, select
Properties, and then select the Tools tab.
