Requests SP4 CD / Errors 1933 and 1223

Dan

I'm using:
- Windows 2000 SP4 (5.00.2195)
- IE 6.00.2800.1106IS

Am trying to install:
- Microsoft AntiSpyware 9.0.333.0

While it is copying the files, a dialog pops up, saying:

------------------------------------------
Windows File Protection
------------------------------------------

Windows files must be installed for
your installation to proceed

Insert your Service Pack 4 CD now.

Retry | More Information | Cancel
------------------------------------------

Problem:
I do not have the Service pack 4 CD because I updated my
system from the Windows Update site.

When I click on Cancel, a dilaog pops up:

----------------------------------------------
Microsoft AntiSpyware Installation Information
----------------------------------------------

Error 1933. The Windows Installer service cannot
update one or more protected Windows files. SFP
Error 1223. List of protected files:
c:\winnt\system32\comcat.dll

| OK |

I recommend doing the following:

1. Open a command prompt window, and type the command:

sfc /scannow

2. When it asks for a CD, insert your Windows 2000 system CD-ROM. It should
pick up the SP4 updates from its internal update archives.

3. Whn sfc finishes (it can take a long time), then try installing Microsoft
AntiSpyware.

Note: you can speed up "sfc" by disabling your virus real-time scanner for
the duration.

Thank you Robin.

I tried what you suggested but got the same "Insert your
Service Pack 4 CD now" message when running 'sfc /scannow'.

However, I tried 'sfc scanonce' which scans at the next
reboot, and at the point it asked me for my Win 2000 CD
(not SP4 CD) which I have, so I was able to successfully
complete the process.

Has that moved you forward on the basic issue with Microsoft Antispyware?
