Repair Internet Explorer?

When starting IE an error comes up stating IE has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience, if you are in the middle
of something the information might be lost. Please tell MS about this
error..but it can't access the internet to send a report. Is this just an
IE problem as my Outlook works fine...and how do I repair IE under WinXP.
Could this error be due to a virus? Also we have just switched internet
providers from cable to DSL. This is on my friends computer.

This may be due to malware BHOs. First, scan the system for parasites and remove them. SpyBot S&D searches your harddisk for Spyware and Adware
