Internet Explorer problems

I've been getting the following window on various web sites, as well as on my
main desktop screen after checking off IE:

INTERNET EXPLORER HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE. WE ARE
SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.

IF YOU WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMETHING THE INFORMATION YOU WERE WORKING ON
MIGHT BE LOST.

PLEASE TELL MICROSOFT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.

Then it asks if I want to create an error report and gives me two boxes to
choose from "Create Error Report" or "Don't Send".

Since I couldn't figure out what the problem was I contacted my ISP and they
were unsure either, so their suggestion was to download Firefox, which I did
so that at least I didn't have the problem with the error windows. But they
are still there when I try IE, which is version 6. Any help out there?

There are a very many reasons you should be using Firefox. Read up about
it.

I kept looking at the various newsgroups and ran across a thread that sounded
awfully close to mine, so I ran with it. Basically it said one could go to
Tools, Manage Add-Ons, in IE OR Start/Run/inetcpl.cpl/OK. This opens
Internet Options Control Panel, click on Programs tab, click on manage
add-ons button. The responder was a Brandon Poe at Microsoft. He then said
to disable all the add-ons and see if there were any problems. If not, then
to begin enabling the add-ons until the problem came up again at which time
the offending add-on could be removed. He did say that if that didn't work
to follow the steps to repair IE in: How to reinstall or repair Internet
Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

Anyway, I tried what he suggested. While I disabled and my particular
problem then was alleviated, when I re-enabled the problem then appeared to
have fixed itself. So now I am back on IE. However, I'm still wondering if
maybe I should stick with Foxfire as my default browser. I hadn't used it
long enough to get a feel for it's true worth. Your thoughts?
