Remote desktop connection

Ok, both systems using XPhome SP2
I go to communication and click desktop connection
a little window opens "remote desktop connection" Computer name
I type it in
NOTHING .....

I don't understand, what am I supposed to type in the box, I typed the exact
remote computer name, 'toshiba' how can it connect? there has to be a
million toshibas out there.

Try using the IP address of that computer instead. If that works, then
there's a name resolution problem somewhere.

It should connent Even if the remote does not have a static IP?
we checked in ipconfig and plugged in the IP that was listed and it still
won't connect.
any other suggestions much appreciated. Really need to get this working.

Win XP Home does not support connecting to a Home version with Remote
Desktop.

You can only connect to WinXP Pro (or Windows 2000/2003 servers) with a
remote desktop connection. But, you can connect "from" home version.

Thanks for the info!
That won't work for us then, what about Remote Assistance, or are they one
in the same?
