Redirection of LPT1

Mike

I am trying to allow our users to redirect LPT1 to a
networked printer. If the user is in the Domain Admins
group on the AD server, redirection works. If the user is
in the Domain Users group on the AD server, redirection
fails.

Redirection of LPT1 only fails on Windows XP PC's, Windows
2000 works fine. I read somewhere that only an
Administrator can redirect LPT1 on Windows XP machines.
So I tried redirecting LPT2 on a Domain Users PC, and it
worked. But I have to redirect LPT1 because of some
really old applications.

Is there a security setting in AD, or on the local PC,
that grants Domain Users the ability to redirect LPT1?

Thanks,
Mike

Sorry, I posted this under Windows 2000 forum also.

Thanks Mike,
Option 1: Disable LPT1 Port in Device Manager. The Net use
to Capture the LPT1 Port

Option 2: If local pringting is required through an LPT
port. Change LPT1 Port to LPT2 in Device Manager.
