Recovering from Blaster worm

I installed xp 2 days ago and before I could even
download all of the updates, I got the blaster worm. I
have since removed the virus and installed all of the
patches but my system is a mess, add/remive programs is
missing, OE wont rec any emails etc. is there a function
to restore all of the standard defaults ? I had to
disable the system restore in XP because it reinfected my
system with the virus after I cleaned it out and Im
afraid to reactivate it.
Any suggestions? Thanks

How did you remove it?
If you're experiencing lots of strange problems, I'd probably do a fresh
install of Windows - not a repair. If you have only had this up for 2 days
you may not even have any data to back up, but if you have actually done any
work on here, do back it up first. On a new install, *before* you connect to
the Internet, always enable your XP firewall - or use a hardware firewall
appliance- and have good antivirus software running and updated regularly.

Suggestion: Start over. Format and reinstall XP. Before
connecting to the internet, turn on and use the XP built in firewall.
Next, download and install an AV program. Try this free one:

www.grisoft.com AVG

Now download and install critical updates. You might even consider
having a friend download the critical updates for you from the
corporate site and copy them to a CD. That way you can install the
updates without connecting to the internet.
