Recently Used Documents

I just switched to Word 2002.
I can't get my recently used documents to show on my file menu. In
"Options", "General" tab, the option is grayed out and cannot be checked.

What is wrog and what can I try to correct it?

If you used TweakUI or a registry hack to turn off the recently used
file list in the Windows Start menu, that's also what killed Word's
list. You'll have to go back and re-enable the Start menu list. See

We did not have Tweak UI set up on our system. Oddly, the knowledge
base article says the problem happens when the system administrator
deliberately set up Tweak UI to stop the MRU from appearing. So, the
genesis of the problem on our system is a mystery.

I could not get Tweak UI to appear in my control panel, even after
downloading and unzipping it from Microsoft, so I simply went into the
registry and made the changes there (more courage than brains, I have).
Now it is working fine. Thanks for the tip.
