Word 2002 Recently Viewed File List is GREYED OUT and can't be checked??

My Word 2002 Recently Viewed File List is GRAYED OUT and can't be activated.

Tools > Options > General
is GRAYED OUT !! !


How do I turn that on???

The usual reason for this is that you've used TweakUI or a registry hack to
turn off the recent-documents list in the Windows Start menu. Word looks at
the same registry value, so its list is also disabled. You can't have one
without the other, so go back and undo the Windows change.

Thanks Jay, I've been searching for ages why there isn't a recent file list in my Office 2003. Now I checked the "Show Documents on Start Menu" option in TweakUI and there it was again. Now of course there is also the hidious "Documents" item in the start-menu again, but I live with that for the moment.
Which brain-dead idiot at Microsoft made this combination will propably remain a mistery.

I made a mistake; it is the "Add new documents to Documents on Start menu" option in TweakUI that controls the "Recent used file lists" under Office 2003. Disabling that will disable the recent file list feature also. The "Documents" item in the start menu can be disabled, as can the favorites item. The last one isn't done in TweakUI but in the property settings of the Start menu
