Reboot problems

Tyce

I have recently encountered a problem when doing a reboot
or starting up after shut down. It now takes up to four
minutes before the Windows XP indicates it is loading. I
went to the Windows Operating System Events and Errors
Log and found a corresponding error ID:7026 that comes up
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 7026
Source: Service Control Manager
Version: 5.0 & 5.2
Component: System Event Log
Symbolic Name: EVENT_BOOT_SYSTEM_DRIVERS_FAILED
Message: The Following boot-start or
system-start driver(s) failed to load: %1

User Action: Do all of the following:
1. Verify that the drivers are configured correctly.
2. Verify that the computer is running the most current
version of the drivers.

I have faithfully gone to the Windows XP Home update site
and have installed all of the latest updates including
drivers.

My first thought was that I may have some corrupted of
missing files in Windows XP. If so can I use the Windows
XP CD that came with my system to re-install Windows
without loosing all of the updates that I have installed
subsequent to system start up about 13 months ago.
every time that I Reboot.

What recommendations do you have?

take a look in device manager for any unexpected status.
Click on view/show hidden devices. You may find an entry with
an ! mark.

If nothing is found, try running SFC /SCANNOW from the CMD prompt.
This will check the integrity of all protected files..
