read receipt for a task assignment?

I am having a problem in my office with task assignments. Sometimes they
never make it to the assignee (or get deleted somehow). I assign them, and
my task list shows that I assigned the task and that the assignee (or new
"owner") has not responded yet. But the task assignee does not seem to have
received the assignment at all. I don't know why this occurs. I can't find
a way to receive a read receipt or delivery receipt for a task. There is also
no way for me to "resend" the task when I find out that it was never
received. I can forward it, but the task cannot be accepted through this
means. I have to make a new task and assign it again. Does anyone have any
comments or advice?
