Questions for Those Who Use Open Office

I see it when *quitting* OO, if I've got something open that *has
already been* saved in a MS format. But that's not what anyone else
has described -- everyone else has specifically mentioned getting it
at *saving*.

Yes, I noticed that after posting. It is annoying, but at least I can use
AutoIt to get around it without too much problem.

Actually, I used the word whinging, and I did so because the last
sentence of your post was whinging in tone, insisting that OOo needed
to have an option that, had you looked, you would have discovered. And,
of course, there was the unfairness implicit in your post, and the
OP's, in not acknowledging that M$ Office behaves the same way if you
try to save in a format not its own. Does M$ Office even have the
option of choosing a default "Save As" format not its own?

Well, all that went way over my head. Sorry if I misinterpreted your post as
being unnecessary criticism. Looks like it was necessary. :)

The initial question was typical of many that I see in various OOo
forums. People come charging in, slagging off the suite, complaining
bitterly that it is "useless", or "crap", or demanding to know "why
doesn't it do this?" or "why can't it do that?" And, as in this case,
the majority of times it turns out that the person had been too lazy
too look for the feature or functionality themselves, and just assumed
it wasn't there. Then, instead of asking for help to increase their
understanding of the software, they rail against its inadequacies.

Max,

I was the one that posed the initial question (within this subthread). I
simply asked if the new version had a way to turn off a feature that the
previous one lacked. If you think that's slagging off the program or
calling it "useless" or "crap", well, you're seeing something I don't.

I assure you, I looked while using 1.0, for something, some setting
somewhere within the Configuration dialog or anywhere that might turn
that "feature" off. I even paid a visit to those lofty OOo forums you're
so hot on and found other people complaining of the same thing with no
solutions presented. Now, maybe I overlooked something somewhere, but if
you think that's being "lazy" then many more than I are guilty.

And I don't recall railing against its inadequacies. I don't often rail
against anything, so I think I'd remember.

Now you're going way too far. I said or did nothing of the sort.

It seems that I spoke too harshly, and that my intent was not conveyed
properly. I apologise.

Sorry, Bob. My intent was misunderstood, obviously I did not convey it
clearly enough. Mea culpa.

Graciously accepted. I accept my share of the blame.

Did they ever get over their obsession with warning you about saving in
any
other format than their own? FE, saving a text document to Word format
(.DOC), it used to always ask if you were sure you wanted to save in that
inferior format, or something like that. Is that still there?

I like OOo, but that really bugs me...

If you set the default format for saving to Word, it stops asking the
question.
