Problems with XP Windows Installer

Hi,
I run Windows XP Home edition
Recently I have started having problems with my Windows Installer.

When I try & download software that requires the Windows Installer e.g.
Microsoft Office 2003, Visio etc, it downloads to +- 80% of the download &
then stops and an error mesage is displayed which says somthing like" Thread
not found"
How can I correct this?
Is there somewhere that I can download a new version of Windows Installer?
any assistance appreciated
thanks
GS

Do you mean "installing software" or downloading it from the Internet?

Normally, you use the Windows Installer (MSI) to install software. It has
been known to sometimes "corrupt" the MSI database , so MS has a Windows
Installer cleaning available.

Hi Yves
thanks for the prompt reply

What I mean is "installing software" that requires Windows installer.
You mentioned Windows has a Windows Installer cleaning facility.
Should I use this & if so where can I access it?

thanks
GS
