hello all, I just built a system with pentium d 3ghz,foxconn 945p7aa-9ks2
mobo, winxp pro sp2..everything works fine except for the onboard lan which
is a broadcom gigabit bcm5789..I just cannot get this socket to work..I've
updated the bios and lan drivers but it will not connect to the network. The
led flashes constantly and Windows explorer locks up when i try to access
other systems on the network.Sometimes Explorer will recover and show an
error message saying that the network is not accessible but usually i have
to reboot..Windows shows it as being connected and working..I have put a
generic 10/100 nic in and this works fine so i think there is no problem
with my network..
any info appreciated.

What shows in Device Manager? If you open a CMD prompt and 'type ipconfig
/all', what do you get? Is the onboard LAN enabled in the BIOS? Check the
Event Viewer for errors.

took a look and there seems not to be any consistant problems with that
setup, the socket maybe damaged or your using a non standard RJ45
connector.

I have a similar netcard on my motherboard, an Asus P4PE, and when I do a
Windows2000 install, I cannot even get Windows to realize my system has a
netcard. The reason is simply that Windows does not recognize the Broadcom
card. What I then need to do after the Windows install is to insert the
software CD that came with my motherboard, and install the drivers that
Asus has supplied for this netcard. Then it works.

Only drawback is then I need to have Windows install all the things for
network connectivity which it didn't bother installing initially.

See if you can find a driver specific to the combination of your netcard
and motherboard IF your broadcom is on your motherboard. Or, just a
driver for the broadcom if its a separate card. It can be that everything
works fine, just that your OS cannot access the card because of a lack of
a suitable driver.

cable and see what happens.
