Problem prevents Windows from checking license, error 0x80090019 ???

Hi,

One of my customers ran into this problem.

On his WinXP home machine, after login, he gets :
"A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for
this computer. error code: 0x80090019"
Then, he is logged off.

Windows is genuine and worked perfectly before.
No recent changes to the hardware.

I checked all applicable MS KB articles, google, JSIinc etc but at no avail.
I hope a re-install can be prevented.

P l e a s e h e l p ?

TIA,
John7

John,

I had this happen to me a couple of months ago. It was a nightmare.
Neither Alienware or Microsoft ($40 for the calls) could solve it. I
spent (I am not kidding) about 20 + hours investigating this with
Alienware, Microsoft, Google groups, etc... and I lost a ton of money
(I use my PC for software development).

Thankfully, I ordered a "respawn" CD (an image on a CD that restored
my PC back to the way it was when I received it). That was the only
solution. Doing the research only taught me to be more backed up than
I was.

Sorry about the grim news!

Windows Genuine Advantage - Diagnostic Site
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

It is not possible to access a network or the internet in Safe Mode
(which is the only way he is going to be able to access the troubled
computer with this bogus unsolvable error. Or a DVD and CD rom drive
from what I remember). I believe I was able to transfer things to a
USB Thumbdrive a little bit at a time in order to backup what I could.

Hi Paul,

Thx for responding.
I was able to solve my issue but it took my 10 hours or more during 1 week,
grrr !
If this happens again, see:
http://forums.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?siteid=25

and

http://www.updatexp.com/cryptographic-service.html
(pointed to by MVP Carey Frisch, thx Carey)
The reregistration of 9 dll's fixed the issue, hehe !

BTW, I don't like PC's like Packard Bell, Dell, etc as they only have 1
partition holding Windows, programs & data.
In case of a restore, your either loose all your data or the latest progress
if you did not think of backing it up first.
The PC's I build and sell have at least C: for Windows and programs, and D:
for data.
In case of a reinstall, data is not at risk or needs to backupped and
restored (backing up is always a good practice tho).
