Printing with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

Frank

I have WPAFV running on XP. The printer an HP 8500 N is hooked to a
server running on Windows NT 4.0.

When I bring a picture or tiff file (any file) and proceed to
print--printer icon--it goes through the whole process and tells me I
have successfully printed my picture and the printer responds but the
paper comes out blank.

The picture/file will print in any of several other programs I have.
They will also print in "print screen". If I have a tiff file and
"highlite" "free draw", "add text"--any and all of these items print
but the original tiff image does not.

It has never worked.

I have spent several hours on the phone with Microsoft help--have not
talked to any of them that know as much about the program as I do--but
they have not helped.

I rather like the program--I just wish I could print my files from it.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you already know more than
we do. I guess telling us what you have
tried might be a good place to begin.

Are you running WinXP SP2 fully updated?

And it might be worth a try to do the following:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

And...have you read the following document?

Hi John,

I definately do not know more than the corporate "we" do. But after
several hours of online and on-phone time with MS/Windows support my
program still works the same--it doesn't. I have also talked with
HP--they claim that because all of my other programs print as well as
part of this one (the highlites, text etc.) it must be a Windows
problem.

I did try the "Start, Run procedure you suggested and it didn't help--I
had tried it before but thought I may as well again.

What I have tried is a rather lengthy list--my recent Case Number
was/is SRZ060602002281 Not sure if you can access that or not.

The 4 most peculiar issues are: I can print the picture/image with
"print screen" and it prints the whole image; If I highlite, add text,
free draw on the same image the "added" items print--show up--but not
the original image; I can put the same image in any of several other
programs and print it and it prints fine; When I "hit" the print icon
it goes through the whole process--asks all the questions and responds
to my answers and in the end tells me I have completed the
printing--the printer alson responds and feeds paper through but it
comes out without any image on it.

Some things I have done: Reloaded (setup) the printer. Changed
colors. Tried every option that the program shows in the process of
printing.

Any help or more ideas appreciated.

"corporate "we" do"? LOL, we are simply
volunteers and can only share our personal
experiences. If the experts at MS and HP
support cannot help you...the problem may
not be solvable.

I suspect the issue is somehow related to the
fact that you are using an older Laser printer
on a network and the WinXP Photo Printing
Wizard is not fully communicating with it.
Maybe it's time to buy an inkjet for your picture
printing.

See what I mean? You already tried our little tricks.
