Pricelessware CD Updates as at today

I've learnt to follow the rules
I can offer a CD with all the updates BUT I won't have the blessing of the
group
I can only distribute the CD as it is
HOWEVER on a private basis, I think you can distribute a CD with the updates
BUT again, who can you trust on the Internet

BTW, a local newspaper has promised to do a write up on the CD in Thailand
on Wednesday

Watch this space

What I had planned to do was to...
1. Create a CD from the ISO
2. Copy that CD into a folder in my ftp space
3. Offer the updates as a downloadable archive file SEPERATE and APART from
the CD files

This is the same thing I mentioned about the deal with ToniArts. I'd
planned to offer them for download...plain and simple, but that got turned
into some kind of monkey circus klusterfuk too. I'm starting to think that
the problem is not with people being able to get the files, the problem here
is too many people are way too paranoid.

It comes from a higher authority. All of us. Because that's the way it is.

Oh, really?! "All of us"? For whom, precisely, do you have a mandate
to speak, apart from yourself?

Someone has to speak for the group. I guess that makes you a minority.

Hi Ceg,

Why is there a problem if I were to use that ISO to create a
CD and post that CD for people to download by file and/or folders rather
than a 500+ meg file? Some people are on crappy little dial-up and can't
get a 500+ meg file, but could get the files by downloading a few files at a
time or a folder at a time.
My intention was to aid those who CANNOT download the 500+ meg file. I
don't plan on altering any of the files nor changing any files.

I am sure that a number of people will appreciate your help. I suggest
however that instead of, or in addition to, offering downloading by
file/folder you consider providing an option to download by "chunks"
eg. 10 files at 50MB each. :)

Regards, John.

I don't recall it ever being announced that you had been elected or
appointed dictator. Right or wrong, cite the authority under which
you imagine you are empowered to issue such an absolute dictum.

If you have intentions of distributing a CD different from the one
offered on the Pricelessware site, which is the *official* one, I
suggest your name be removed as a volunteer burner.
You have no business distributing anything other than what you
volunteered to distribute. Anything else would have to be considered
your own, personal project.

How about the "Nicolaas Hawkins Freeware CD Project"? That way, you can
distribute whatever the hell you want on your CD.

Again.

Not at all.

Let me make it perfectly clear that I am not arguing against the will of
the group ¡X on the contrary, I am in full agreement ¡X but I do take
issue with its being articulated in such a peremptory manner by someone
presuming to speak for the group when they have absolutely no mandate or
authority to do so. To my knowledge the only person who has been
authorised to speak for the group is Ms Bugher. Now ¡X answer my
question, please, without further prevarication, or else SUAGA.

Where did I say - or even hint (cite, please) - that I had any intention
of distrbuting anything other than what I volunteered to distribute. Do
you need comprehension lessons? Lessons in not jumping to conclusions
(i.e., ASSuming)?

As a volunteer burner I am as aware as you, and possibly more so, of my
obligations to Pricelessware. I certainly do not need you to tell me
what my business is, thank you very much. Moreover, if such a reminder
were necessary, it is not for you to do.

Let me make it perfectly clear, once and for all and in words that even
you will find hard to misinterpret, that I am NOT arguing against the
will or intent of the group ¡X on the contrary, it has my wholehearted
support and loyalty.

As far as I am concerned, the issue is wholly and solely that you
presumed to speak for the group (of which, might I remind you, I am a
member) ¡X and it appears that you still do ¡X without any right, mandate
or authority to do so. As far as I am aware, Ms Bugher is the only
person with any such mandate.

Anything else would have to be considered your own, personal project.

Indeed it would.

How about the "Nicolaas Hawkins Freeware CD Project"?

How about you pack up being such a bozodork?

That way, you can distribute whatever the hell you want on your CD.

Believe me, I would ¡X and without reference to you for approbation.

I love it when scholastics argue - I learn new $20.00 words for my
limited vocabulary.

He's just another troll with a thesaurus trying to bait me. Did you notice
that he wanted me to answer a question that's been already answered? True
troll-like conduct.

There is absolutely no fear of that happening. In the fool stakes, you

Speaking of troll-like conduct, I'm sure we all bow to your vastly
superior personal knowledge and experience. Rats aren't worth the
bother of baiting.

Hi Nicolaas,

I'm a little bit uncomfortable with that as it stands. . .

I don't usually speak *for* the group (aka - make the rules) as someone
recently suggested. In most of my posts I'm expressing my own opinion.

I think my authorization to speak *for* the group only applies in
certain circumstances - I am a spokesperson/authority for ACF when I
answer the Pricelessware links button emails or send emails to PL
authors. (Mostly I'm the "point person" - I propose the calendar for the
PL selection process, initiate reviews of web pages etc.)

IMO anyone can post: "this is my understanding of the group consensus".
I probably do that more than most but I don't think I have an exclusive
franchise. . .

It's for 100% ceratin that nobody *else* has any authority or mandate to
speak *for* the group or try to lay the law down.

I suggest that you are the *only mandated* spokesperson/authority for
ACF, particularly on matters Pricelessware. Certainly the only one *I*
am aware of and recognise.

IMO anyone can post: "this is my understanding of the group consensus".

Oh, Indeed. However, saying "this is my understanding of the group
consensus" is a whole order of magnitude different to the peremptory "I
speak for the group and this is how it will be, like it or lump it!"

My Two Cents Worth re: The CD

The group put this thing together to make it available to folks with
dialup, such as myself, who would have a hard go of it downloading mega
mg's of freeware. We set up volunteers to distribute it from requests to
the ng. The volunteers were told that they could burn additional copies
to any deserving group - libraries, etc. Susan and a group of helpers
searched thru countless eulas to ensure freeware authors' desires were
followed. IN OTHERWORDS: a lot of work has gone into this PW CD project
and anyone who doesn't follow the parameters set up by the group is not
welcome to associate his/her work with the PW logo. So if you are doing
your own thing, do it under a different name.
I believe the above is the reason why so many flames have started,

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why there is a difference
between burning a CD or posting an image of the CD (copy of the finished CD
not ISO) in an ftp area for download. Is it in your license that the only
way the expanded files may be distributed is in the form of a physical CD?

Yes! It's so simple in concept that it is easily perverted.
There are *no* official updates to the PW2004 CD. The PW2004 CD is
complete and to be distributed as is.

Any changes for the PW2005 CD will, and should be, discussed after the
PW2005 list is compiled.

I'm sure that will bring another round of heated discussion, but, hell,
what's Usenet good for if you can't speak freely? Regardless of what
type of fool you are? :)
