Power-off after shutdown

My PC doesn't automatically power off after I select the
shutdown command. It brings me instead to a "It's safe to
shutdown" screen, whereby I have to physically press the
power button to shut it off

I don't think it's an ACPI problem, as I had Windows ME on
this machine before, and it powered down fine

Try pressing it 10 seconds to power off
It does sound like it is an ACPI function
You have an unsupported upgrade; from ME to W2K
I suggest you do an inplace upgrade first.
And then go to your MoBo manfr. site for drivers for W2K, if they are available.
99 out of 100 cases, that has been the answer.

I know how to power off the machine; Windows 2000 just
doesn't do it for me like ME did. And I did a reformat and
clean install of 2000, not an upgrade from ME

I just replied to another similar message posted a bit before this one
with the exact same response so this must be it. Funny how I didn't
even see this message until after I replied. Oh well...
