"Please wait while ..."

I have "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003" installed on my computer
and I am running Windows XP Pro. My problem is that when I start an unrelated
program like "Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1" or "Spyware Inoculator 2.0" I get
a dialog box stating "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office
Professional Edition 2003". After the configuration is performed, the
unrelated program starts. Does anybody know why starting an unrelated program
should cause Windows to configure Office? I tried Microsoft paid help, but
after three or four weeks of no solution I got a refund. Thanks for any help.

Could you tell us what they had you try so that someone who would like
to assist you does not have to repeat those steps ?
Thanks.

Not much, I became so frustrated that I threw away all suggestions.

I remember that I uninstalled Office, removed some Office related entries in
the registry, and then reinstalled Office. It did not solve the problem.

Also, I might add, that the problem does not happen everytime I start those
unrelated programs. It occurs about every third time on average.

There must be a test somewhere in Windows that says "Lets configure Office".
Why its so hard to find out why an unrelated program would cause it I don't
know.

Users in the microsoft.antispyware newsgroup have resolved this issue by
running the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301

Select Office on the Installed Products list in the Windows Installer
CleanUp dialog box. After you make this selection, the utility removes
only the Windows Installer configuration information that is related to
Office.
NOTE from the KB article : " If you use this utility to remove the
Windows Installer configuration information for your program and you
plan to reinstall the program, you should reinstall the program in the
same folder where you originally installed it. This prevents duplication
of files on your hard disk or disks. "

Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

This looks like one of the suggestions that the MS paid help gave me. It
didn't work that time.

I tried it again.

1) Ran the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility - removed Office entry.
2) Reinstalled Office

I'll give it a week to see what happens.

Well it didn't take a week after trying your suggestion before the problem
showed up again.

You would think that somebody at Microsoft would know all the places in
Windows that a test is made to configure Office and what subset of those
tests could be triggered by the initiation of an unrelated program.

Hi,

This generally happens when Office had not been installed via the profile in
use and has to do with a missing entry via the registry
(UserData"=dword:00000001). Either way and ignore the name, run line 171
(right hand side): http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Added info:

Windows Installer start every time I start XP. If you have SpywareGuard
installed, disable it and try again.

Added info:

"Every time I launch my application, Windows Installer performs an
installation. How can I determine the cause of the on-demand installation?"

Hi, thanks for the response.

I looked at that .reg file and at my registry. (UserData"=dword:00000001) is
already set in all Office components and mine is Office\11.0 and not
Office\10.0.
