when starting up computer i get the following messages in popup form windows
no disk\device\harddisk1\dr2 but i haven't got any disks in my cd-rom, then
when going into internet explorer the message explorerexe.nodisk comes up?
i'm not very computer literate and have no idea what this means. we have been
having a problem with our cd-rom. it won't read software disks eg norton
systemworks, internet secruity, installation disk for printer but will play
dvd features. please help!!!

it could be that your cmos/bios
settings got zapped. you can
reset them by accessing your bios
and ensuring your harddrives and
cd is registered. each pc is
different so you should check
your pc manual. basically, holding
down a key like del while powering on
the computer will open the cmos menu.

if the settings are present and
all looks ok inside the cmos, then
you may need to use the recovery
console from the windows cd. however,
if your cd is still not functioning,
there is a mechanical failure inside
your pc. but its difficult to realize
from here if the cd device is broke or
the connections are loose. Or maybe the
powersupply module is failing... a failing
powersupply may have also temporarily zapped
the cmos settings as well, if you looked
in there and found some errors.

anyway here is a link that may provide
additional information for you...

hi, thanks for the link i have tried and it still appears. i have noticed
that i am getting other popups as well. i have been sitting here for days
reading other threads to try and fix the problem and nothing seems to help.
could it be that it has something to do with norton systemworks/internet
secruity2006? i somehow managed to delete the shortcuts on and can only get
limited access but when trying to go to norton/symantec websites computer is
verrry slow then says the page doesn't exsist or when trying to google only
part of the search results show up. this is getting very frustrating!! i have
uninstalled the programs & reinstalled fine but now it's not reading the
disks. also when trying to uninstall now it says to put in systemworks disk
but it won't read uts a catch 22 it's like the computer is preventing me
trying to access help from their sites have tried links in manual that came
with program & its a dead link?? the more i read in newsgroups there are
problems with norton programs
