Playing movies in PowerPoint

A colleague of mine was having problems playing movies in
her PowerPoint. She had a series of really small (less
than 20k) MPEG files which she inserted into the
presentation without any problems but when she tried to
play the movies she ended up with a white screen. The
same thing happened when I converted the movie files
to .avi format. When she played the PowerPoint on another
machine the movies played fine. She has Windows 2000 and
PowerPoint 2000.
