trouble playing multiple movies in a Powerpoint slide

When I try to play the second of two movies inserted into a Powerpoint slide,
the second movies plays in the first movie's window. If the first movie is
still playing, the two run superimposed in the first window. I have been
using PP for years and this just started recently. I have tried making new
slides, new Powerpoint presentations and have reinstalled Powerpoint to no
avail.

I don't know what to do next

Which version of PPT are you using?

Which version of Windows?

How did you insert the video file into PPT?

Are they placed on top of each other on the slide or side by side or what?

the movies are in two separate spots on the slide, not overlapping. I start
one & it plays ok, when I start the second, its window goes black and it
plays in the first movie's window. If I start them in the opposite order,
the movies started second shows up in the other window. It only happens in
presentation view. Both movies play ok in the slide view.

Hm. I don't know what the problem is. I know I've seen some weird video
things, but this isn't one of them! :)

You don't mention a projector, so I assume that this happens just on your
regular computer monitor.

Since this just started recently, I wonder if some other software has made
changes to your system to cause this.

You might try the basics to start troubleshooting, though -- update your
video driver and also see if changing hardware acceleration has any effect.

You fixed it! I turned the hardware acceleration down three clicks and the
problem disappeared. I wonder what caused this and whether changing the
graphics hardware accelertion will affect anything else, but I am VERY
HAPPY!! :->

That's great to hear!

I wouldn't worry too much about your hardware acceleration having been set
to its highest level. It could be that you installed some software or other
and when it runs, it sets HA to high. Games will often do this kind of
thing. Or it might be that you updated your video driver, and it reset
itself. Or maybe it's always been that way, but you had a previous version
of PPT on the system and it wasn't quite as picky. Or something.

Some programs seem to run better with HA up, some with it down, and others
(like PPT), well, those just depend on the phase of the moon and at what
angle you hold your head and how far you stick out your tongue...

Running into a similar problem. New computer, new version of PowerPoint

Windows XP version 2002 sp 2, PowerPoint 2002 sp3

the second video blanks out during play operation.

Any suggestions?

Video blanking out is quite a bit different than a video playing in a
different video's window.

So, assuming you have two videos on the slide as the original poster did,
does the problem video play if you put it on a slide by itself?
