Permissions for network computers don't work

I'm havng difficulty setting sharing permissions for my new Athlon 64 bit
computer, which has an NTFS boot drive. The other 2 XP computers have Fat32
boot drives. All are set to "simple file sharing" disabled. I realize that
the default behavior for an NTFS boot drive is to restrict access to the
folders Windows and Program Files. I want to remove this restriction, so I
can access these folders from other computers on my network. As of now I
can't even view those folders from other computers. Yet I can access and
change files in other folders on the Athlon 64.

Here are a few clues as to why I'm having problems:

When I double click on Control Panel\Network Connections, the top of the
screen says: Network Bridge. It has a 1394 Connection which I understand is
for plugging in Firewire HD's. Below that it says: Network Bridge and below
that it says: Local Area Connection 2 If I right click Local Area
Connection 2 and choose repair. The screen says that I don't have TCP/IP
enabled for this connection. By right clicking on Properties I see there is
no way to add TCP\IP protocol. Yet if I choose "Properties" for Network
Bridge, then I do see that TCP\IP is installed.

If I right click the boot drive in my Athlon64 and choose Sharing, I see the
share name is listed as C$ and if I click on Permissions I get a message
that says: This has been shared for Administrative purposes. If I choose New
share\Permissions the screen says,"everyone", I then choose Allow Full
Control, all 3 boxes are now checked. I name the new share "Progs (C)",
which is the name of that HD as it shows up in My Computer. I have user
limit at maximum allowed. So now under share name there are 2 entries C$ and
Progs (C). I've tried deleting C$ after this routine failed to get access
and it showed back up after rebooting the computer. It seems C$ is having
precedence over Progs (C). What is C$?

I understand using an NTFS boot drive I also need to enable sharing for the
restricted folders. So I right clicked Program Files and Windows folders and
chose Sharing, I got a sharing box that looked just like the one for the C:\
in My Computer. I chose Allow Full Control for Everyone and it still has
restricted access.

I tried choosing the Security tab and chose permissions for Full Control for
all the user names listed in the box. The only name that doesn't stay
checked for "Allow" is Creator Owner. I check Allow and then it changes it
back to Deny

I've checked out the settings under Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Local
security Policy\Local Policy/User rights assignments or Security Options.
And so far I haven't made any changes, but I'm wondering if this is where my
problems are. Also I went to http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm Windows XP
Network Problem Solver and tried that. So far no fixes

Any clues or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I've solved my own problem and will post the solution just in case someone
has a similar problem.

I setup remote desktop on all 3 computers and in doing so had to create
logon passwords under control panel/user accounts. Since my network is a one
person network, I have no need for passwords and a logon screen. I solved
this by using Tweaku for XP and choosing auto logon, so I boot to the
desktop.

I think the passwords really solved my problem, but remote desktop is a
wonderful feature enabling me to control any computer on my network from
another computer. I can be downstairs and view the desktop of my upstairs
computer and operate it as if I were upstairs
