pc speaker beep??

I have got most of the system sounds under control
thru the Control Panel Sounds. But on one pc, that does
not even have speakers or an audio device, I sometimes
get a "beep" from the builtin pc speaker when I do
certain actions. I can find nowhere to turn off this
annoying beep.

Help??

I believ that what you need to do is go to Device Manager and on the View
menu, select the Show Hidden Devices item. Expand the Non-Plug and Play
Drivers section in the right pan and disable the device called "Beep".

Never mind. Fixed it!

You removed the speaker, right?
Nope. As this was just a backup pc for downloading files off The Box
I had not installed any audio drivers. So the pc was trying to
tell me stuff thru the pc speaker. I installed the audio drivers
and low and beholt, hte pc speaker stopped squawking. And because
I have not connected real speakers, there is no sound at all.

So I am guessing ... in XP Pro sp 3, if you have not installed
drivers for the audio on your MoBo, the pc speaker picks up
the slack?? But once you install the audio drivers, you can
get no sound.

And this makes sense?????

Yes that is correct. If Windows doesn't find an audio device, it will
use the PC speaker. Once it finds one, it will transfer the sounds to
this device.

The reason why I asked how you did it is because I believe you can
disable or remove the PC speaker. Disabling I believe is through the
Device Manager. Removing it was something I was a bit less knowledgeable
about. If you remove it through the Device Manager, it might reappear
after rebooting.
