PC Beep

Hello!!

I use Windows XP. I'd like to turn all the sounds on my computer off, except
for my media player. I've changed the settings to "No Sounds" through Control
Panel-Sounds, however now I get the PC Beep whenever a sound would normally
play.

Is there any way I can disable all sound from my computer, excluding the
sound coming from Windows Media Player or iTunes?

Cheers,

If you open the volume control, you should see a "mute" checkbox.

The beep codes were developed by IBM to tell technicians where the
potential problems were. IBM used to have the "manual" on-line that
explained all the beep codes and their meanings.

I don't think that's the sound he is referring to, this is while windows is
running and your response doesn't apply. he said beep coming from the pc
speaker whenever a regular sound should play

Create then merge this registry file to disable system beeps:

1. Copy below and paste into Notepad.

----------copy inside only----------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound]
"Beep"="no"
"ExtendedSounds"="no"

----------copy inside only----------

2. Save-as Beep_Off.reg (or any name + .reg)

3. Double-click or right-click and merge into the registry.

Takes effect after reboot.
