PBM: Outlook Express default mail application but Hotmail in MSIE is used as "Send to..."

V

Vince C.

Hi.

I've once setup "Hotmail" as the default mail application. I then used MSIE to
send mail messages with the "Send to" system menu. Now I want Outlook Express
back as my default mail handler. I've gone to MSIE settings and selected Outlook
Express instead of Hotmail.

But whatever I select Hotmail remains the default mail handler. I have also
Outlook 2000 installed on my machine and it complains about not being the
default mail handler. I press "Yes" to restore it as the default but no way:
Hotmail in MSIE remains the default.

Can someone tell me what's possibly wrong? I'm using MSIE6 SP1 and Windows XP
Pro SP1.

Thanks for any hint/suggestion.

Do you want Outlook or Outlook Express to be the default?

For Outlook Express, You need to re-register OE as the default mail
client.

Close OE, then click Start|Run and paste in this command line:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Now go to Control Panel|Internet Options|Programs and set OE as the
default client. If you installed IE and OE to a different location, be
sure to change the path in the command line.

To re-register Outlook, click Start|Run and type:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /checkclient

Your path to "outlook.exe" might be different if you are running an
older version, so verify that before you re-register. Then when you open
Outlook, you will be prompted again to set Outlook as the default.

u need to set OE as your default mail handler, then set up hotmail as
an ACCOUNT in OE

That way everything comes to one place and one handler and you choose
which acct u want to mail FROM just by selecting it in the FROM
dropdown.

when you GET mail all your accounts are polled and dnlded.
