"outlook reached maximum size"

V McGhee

Hi,
I've received the message "outlook reached maximum size".
I have googled and there are some "fixes" for it but I wonder
whether it's possible to fix the error using Windows tools?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't for a moment think that the error message said "Outlook" has
reached it's maximum size.
What did the error message REALLY say?

Thanks for reply.

It's Office Outlook 2007 and the same occurred with Office Outlook 2003.
I uninstalled Office 2007 and installed Office 2003, but it was even worse.

This is what it says in brief :
"Outlook. Outlook.pst has reached its maximum size?"

But longer message was as follows :

" The file C:\Documents and Settings\Application data\
Microsoft\Outlook\\Outlook2 (pst)
has reached its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in its file-
select some items that you no longer need and permanently delete them by
pressing SHIFT+DELETE. You could also consider using the new Outlook
Personal Folder file (.pst) introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides
greater
capacity for storing items and folders."

Right. So it's NOT "Outlook" that has reached its maximum size, it's the
pst file. This is why you need to be very EXACT when you post to these
groups.
As the default pst format for Outlook 2003 is set at 20 GB, then I can
only presume that you are using a legacy pst file from Outlook 2002 or
earlier.
Create a new pst file in 2003 format (in Outlook do File-New-Outlook
Data File) and set that as default delivery location.

Thanks for reply.

Eh? "Outlook" is the Mail PROGRAM. The Mail PROGRAM cannot, by
definition, have a "maximum" size.
The DATA file, used by Outlook the Email PROGRAM, is what is reaching
the maximum size.
You need to check what format the pst file is in.

Why then the Outlook info says :
" Microsoft\Outlook\\Outlook2 (pst)has reached its maximum size"

Is this "Microsoft\Outlook\" which I use - diferent than this one you have
in mind?

I'm back to Outlook 2007 and previously used Outlook 2003.
NOT Outlook 2002.
Create a new pst file in 2003 format (in Outlook do File-New-Outlook
Data File) and set that as default delivery location.

I'll try...

because that's the full path and name of the DATA file that Outlook
uses. It's NOT the program "Outlook. That resides in the folder
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12

You'd be more even helpful, Gordon, instead of playing semanticists...

Thanks, I know you're trying to help, not showing me how ignorant I
am...-:) However to be precise - you have to know first
the problem you are dealing with. Then you can indulged yourself
in details.

I'm sorry if you think I was being pedantic, but you must realise that
no-one here can see your computer, so in all these things you must be
very precise, otherwise all sorts of misunderstandings can (and do) occur!

One could anticipate the complications, of course, and the best would be
giving me the link rather than anything else. Thanks. You're not perfect
but quite helpful intentionally or not...-;))) That was a good hint.
