Outlook automatically deletes messages

I use hotmail within outlook. Whenever I open a new message and then close
it, outlook automatically deletes the message rather than leaving it in the
inbox. This is annoying as I cannot scan my mail and then come back to it.
Is there a way of configuring outlook so it only deletes when i want it to?

Do you have an answer? This unwanted deleting is a real nuisance and is
wasting a lot of my time!

look on the view menu - change it to messages view.

Sorry, Email has ALWAYS been in messages view. What happens is that after I
have read a hotmail message in Outlook, when I close it by hitting the cross,
the message is moved to the Deleted Items box. This is a bug because I
always used to be able to review my mail without it being deleted before I
installed Vista.
