Outlook 2007 randomly deletes messages after they have been read?

I use Outlook 2007 on Vista.
After I have read a message, Outlook deletes it automatically when I close
the message after reading, most of the time but not all of the time. Am I
doing something wrong as I do not necessarily want to lose messages just
because I have read them once.

Outlook doesn't delete read messages automatically. Are you using the
Unread Mail folder to read your messages? If you do, then the messages
will disappear from that folder once they have been read. The Unread
Mail folder is however only a search folder, which means it simply
aggregates all unread messages in your actual mail folders. If you look
at your Inbox folder, you should find those read messages in there.

I'm sorry but that is not what is happening. I have two inboxes, one a
direct address, the other Hotmail. It is the latter that this applies to.
I click on the Inbox pane to get to my messages, I read them and then they go
automatically to deleted items in the Hotmail Folder. Any idea why this
might be?
Thanks

I don't know, sorry. I don't use Hotmail with Outlook.

I FOUND THE ANSWER

find the SCAN PST program from microsoft and scan your PST email address file for errors. This solved the problem for me.

I would also scan all the PST files that outlook is using...each takes about 10 minutes to complete for me. the main file, the archive file and the email file.

I end up using this program about once a month...it is free...wish I had the link for you.

try this...
