Outlook 2003

When I start Outlook I get the following message: The add-in
"C:\PROGRAM\Hotbar\bin\449 1.0\SB2LExt.d11" could not be installed or loaded."
I tried the suggestion of using detect and repair but to no avail.
I have to try 3 or 4 times to get rid of this message before I can get into
Outlook.
Please help.

Hotbar is adware. See http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.hotbar.html
.. Remove it from Add or Remove Programs if you can. Here's a removal tool
if you can't: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxHotbar.exe .

Close Outlook. Open Windows Explorer and in the Address Bar type
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and click
Go. Delete the file extend.dat and the restart Outlook.

I followed your advise, couldn't find on Programs so used the removal tool
securityresponse.symantec.com etc. but when it was finished it said that
Adware is not on this computer.
Please advise.

OK, then, just remove the extend.dat file.

I deleted the file, but it keeps showing up again and goes nowhere, even when
I empty the recycle bin.
Also, I have no idea how to close or hide the message, that doesn't seem to
be an option.

It's supposed to show up again. It gets regenerated and should contain only
those extensions that are actually installed.

Then you'll need to use regedit to go into the registry, seach for
"sb2ext.dll" or "hotbar" and remove all of the references to it.

I simply do not have enough techinal knowledge to attempt what you suggest so
will leave for now.
