Outlook 2003 - inserting hyperlinks to documents on our network

My organisation currently sends files by attachments rather than using
hyperlinks which is leading to problems of version control etc. I am
attempting to move them to a system where hyperlinks to network files can be
used rather than attachments.

In previous organisations using Outlook ( pre 2003 version) it has been a
simple matter of insert hyperlink, which then offered you a browse option to
search your network and insert the appropriate file.

My current organisation uses Outlook 2003 and this functionality appears to
be missing completely. Is the file// option in add hyperlink supposed to
replace this for inserting links to network documents and if so has the
browse functionality been lost.

When I tried using the file// and pasting in the link the hyperlink would
not activate.

Am I missing something obvious?

Use the format below:

file://\\servername\sharename\docname.ext

If there are spaces in the path, you will need to enclose the entire path in
angle brackets ( < and > ).
