Outlook 2003 error reading POP3 mail

Help needed from you good folks ..

First time here for me..

Outlook 2003 running on XP Pro with SP2 installed and Outlook 2003 SP
installed ..

Outlook 2003 all of sudden *freezes* when accessing pop3 email ... show 60%
complete ... the hourglass appears .. attempting to do anything at that
point displays "Inbox not responding" error to Microsoft indicates
OUTLOOK.EXE with message hungapp. Outlook Express runs like a champ
downloads all pop3 mail. Have un-installed Outlook 2003 and re-installed ..
same problem. Spent many hours researching the Internet for help, any
offered help has not worked ..
Virus definitions current for McAfee and no virus found .. Adaware has
removed some (Adaware is run daily and checked for updates) *spyware* also
ran SpyBot to nail the rest .. still same issue..

I will no try to condense 3 day's worth of work into a quick paragraph.
Turned off McAffee(Outlook failed), turned off XP Download service (failed),
as stated earlier un-installed and re-installed OutLook(failed), deleted
outcmd.dat(failed), POP3 provided by ISP (No local server), ran Diskeeper
(failed), ran HDD diags all tests passed, installed more RAM (needed
anyhow), No Faxing software on this box and the rest of my list is at work.

So anyhow any help greatly appreciated.

What is your connection like to the internet? (e.g. are you behind a router
that lets you share a single ip address to many machines?) The reason that
I ask is that you might be dealing with what is called a black hole router
and/or the device you connect into is corrupting packets.

This should go to the group .. Neo good idea but I have 5 other Outlook 2003
connected to same router with no failures.. also I should have mentioned
that this box worked good til last Thursday ..
I have a good tracert and ping ratio .. no dropped ip's .. I will have to
look for a packet checker tomorrow at work to check for corrupt packets ..

Thanks

depending on how you are using ping, it might not be telling you that the
MTU on the Windows XP box is too big for your connection. (and since you do
have a router. just to let you know and imho, linksys is one of the worst
offenders when it comes to MTU or corrupt packets)

Sorry it took so long to get back to you ... I am using ping as such ...
ping <ispserveraddress> -f -i 1450 if you add 28 it is now within ping range
for ethernet .. which should be a valid MTU ... replies okay ...

The FIX seems to be ...

Add/Remove Programs>>Remove Microsoft Journal.. entry should be just below
Outlook 2003, if installed, repaired the Outlook not responding after
collecting several messages and then freezing ...

One for the books and to remember ... FYI not sure about you neo, but
anything to do with Microsoft Journal seems to cause the systems I work on
problems ...
