Gary-
You must work for Microsoft- I was on the phone with Microsoft in India and
the guy fixxed my computer- I gave him control as I had NO idea what he was
doing.
I am one of those people that If I click onto a quick fix, I really screw up
my computer even more..

To those of you who can't used Gary's or Steve's fix- just re-create another
user name with the same email address..it is a pain but at least that way you
will be able to send and receive emails...You do need to re-enter all your
email addresses...

The fastest way that I exported my address book was to put it on my desktop,
then put it on an external harddrive , then I imported it from the hardrive
and put it on the desktop under the new user name....At least it was a fix
that I was able to do until Microsoft fixxed my original user name's
email...they said it was a corrupt file.

It's fair to assume you are now a CIA agent. ;)

Neither I nor any of the other regular respondents here work for Microsoft.
We are strictly volunteers who happen to enjoy the mental challenge of
working with computer problems.

i have tried the WMUtil but to no joy.
as far as i know i have followed the "esay" instuctions but to date i still
have to send via another email programme.
i would like to ask
1 is it going to be fixed by microsoft with a "easy download"?
2 any more help even to the point of sending a download type programme from
yourselves that will unpack and fix this problem?
my last point i wanted to thank all the people esp the guys who are so

What do you mean by "no joy" when you tried WMUtil? How did it fail?

As far as permanent relief from these WinMail problems, I look
forward to Microsoft's release of the new Windows Live Mail program
later this month. At least we'll have a different set of problems to keep
us entertained!

Hello.

After successfully saving & then extracting the zipped files I have tried
several times to run the program. Each time I get an error message saying:
"WMUtil has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working
correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available."

Any suggestions?

Have you made sure that Windows Mail has been stopped?

If Windows Mail is open, or if a current WinMail.exe process is running, the
Database functions are disabled, and the WinMail.exe process must be
terminated before these features can become available. (If WinMail is closed
and these buttons still remain disabled, then perform a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, and
under Processes find WinMail.exe and click on it, and then click the End
Process button.)

I'm afraid that's as far as I can go on this.
Hopefully Steve Cochran, the utilities author, will be along soon
and he'll be able to help you properly.
