Windows Mail is full of bugs, but don't blame Vista for that. Different
programming teams. I think Vista has less bugs than WinXP did at this
point.

And in the UK, at least, the Vista technical support (phone)
is second to none. Try getting help from British Gas!

Thank you! It worked. Is this going to keep happening - is it something to do
with my anti-virus settings?

I'm having the same problem and I've tried the website below and the two
folders I get are:
WMUtil and Scxout.dll
I do not get a clear outbox option. Do I need to do something else? I have
spend soo much time reading these posts and trying so much, nothing seems to
work.
Thank you!!!!!!1

Did you read the Program Operation notes at http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

In particular: 'If Windows Mail is open or if a current WinMail.exe process is running, the Database functions are disabled, and
they (the WinMail processes) must be terminated before these features are available. (If WinMail is closed and these buttons still
remain disabled, then perform and CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and under Processes find WinMail.exe and click on it, and then click the End
Process button.) "

Yes, I've found the clean outbox box and when I click on it, I get a message
that states "unable to access database" System.dllNotFound Exception:unable
to load DLL Scxout.dll. There is also more to the message? Have you ran
across this before? I did the Cntrl shift esc and it doesn't show WinMail
running.

The author updated the WMUtil program sometime around 5/4/07.
If you're not sure you have the latest version, delete what you
have and download again.
Also, when checking Task Manager for any running WinMail.exe,
make sure you're on the Processes tab.

I deleted the previous downloads and tried again and I still get the same
message. I went into Processes on Task Manager as well and ended all WinMail
as well. Any other ideas? Thank you

We'll probably have to wait for the program's author, Steve Cochran, to
provide further advice. Meantime, make sure that both unzipped files,
WMUtil.exe and scxout.dll, are in the same folder, and that folder is
someplace where you have rights to it.

The cause of the error was the two files were not in the same directory.
They have to be in the same directory so the exe can reference the dll.

Strange. Seems like the extraction (unzipping) process automatically
puts both files into the same extraction folder.

Some people may not extract both files or they may move one of them, I
suppose.

I wanted to thank both Gary and Steve for their time.
I've been unable to send email for 3 weeks. After several looks at
"communities" dealing with this issue, this is the one thing I understand and
it WORKED!!! Thank you so much. Keep up the good work, it's very much
appreciated!
On another note...I have an email in my inbox that has the same message

"Message could not be displayed Windows Mail encountered an unexpected
problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or
low disk space and try again. Windows Mail"

Could you tell me how to get rid of it? It's not a real problem like the
one blocking me from sending mail, just a nuicance, but I'd still like to get
it gone! Please keep it simple, I'm somewhat technically challenged!

Kathleen, thanks for the feedback.
If the bad message in your inbox cannot be deleted after marking
it 'read', then you might as well ignore it for now. There are some
advanced techniques available, which require deletion of the
message store, but the inherent risks are not worth the small gain.
Microsoft has announced that it will replace Windows Mail with a
new email program, Windows Live Mail, later this month, so just
hang in there for now.

I'm glad it worked for you. There is no fix for the other problem at the
moment.
