Don't know about BB, but Litestep has certainly gotten better
with the installer and OT2 standard. I uninstalled it when I
was using 98, but now in XP I played with it again, really not
bad. It usually save 10mb+ of memory resource when compared
to the explorer.exe process. However, some themes can be
buggy and I have not yet find a theme that I fully like.

I am using the standard LiteStep theme that comes with the LiteStep Installer
tool. It looks good for a start, and is one of the cleanest (less fancy)
themes I've found.

Yes, I love that theme, too. Very stable and functional. The
only thing I don't like is that I have a 800x600 monitor and I
want a thin bar with all the same functions it has. All I
found was either a thick bar or lacking the system information
being display on the bar. The theme is quite good because it
display everything at a glance but I wish the width of the bar
could be of its half. :-(

Have a look at "Thin" by Teschio. It shows system info, VWM, tasks
and systray all in a single thin bar. It's stable.

One of the things that affects stability IMO is whether or not you
choose to display desktop icons. I've often found that to be buggy,
though I think it must depend on how it's implemented because some
icon themes, like Omar's, are completely stable.

Personally, I'd be quite happy never to see another desktop icon.

I agree..not bad at all. I'm kinda partial to blue and semi-dark hues.
Nice.

This is another shot of the same KDE desktop

This is actually a double-exposure showing a screen-shot
of a screen-shot ....

Under XFCE a single-click on a displayed image
conveniently opens the ImageMagick menu shown in the screenie ....

Switching the Window Managers under Linux can be done
from a drop-down menu at user login ....

Sound good, downloading it. However, from the screenshot, it
looks like the bar is top bar, wondering if it can dock at the
bottom of the screen. I saw many that have thin bar would
dock top but not bottom, but I don't like top
bars......wondering....

I think it's top only. Simple Plan by idioteque might be what you
need. It has a thin bar which you can set to either top or bottom and
has rainmeter and rainlendar in boxes separate from the bar. It has
quite a few other configuration options on the shift+left-click menu.

I google it but don't seem to find it. The wamp them comes up
but not the Litestep one.

In fact, I just found this one in customize.org and think that
it is perfect for my purpose:

CleanDesk v1.0

http://www.customize.org/details/25057

On a thin bar it has all:

- VWM leftclick/rightclick
- Time & date with LSXCommand
- System usage (RainMeter)
- WinAmp Controls (DynAmp & label)
- Tasks
- Dynamic Systray resizing

and can be set to bottom or up

In term of funtionality, I found it perfect, although the look
is kind of simple and nothing fancy at all. I modified a
couple things in it myself, including the time date format and
I "weakened" the rain meter image to make it look nicer.
Perhaps in the future will modify more of its look myself.
But it is definitely the best I have found. I downloaded many
others but they all *look* nice but lack of this "at a
glance" design.

Very good. Thanks for the theme tip. I was finding only fancy themes, that
didn't look good. (my favorite LiteStep theme is 'lcde' but it's outdated,
buggy and made for 1280x1024 :/ )

:) That is super, guess that I am not the only one who like
thin bar.

I am not saying that this theme is entirely bug free because
theme authors typically make a theme tailor to their own box.

But so far I found that bugs in this one is very minimal and
easy to fix because they are not graphic related. The only
thing I needed to fix was to modify the Rainmeter perference
(.ini file), to make the net dl ul meter works in my case.

The theme is so functional and now I can really stick to
Litestep. Before that, I really never used Litestep that much
because I like to access many folders using the shortcut context
menu but the earlier version of LS did not support that. Then,
LS has gotten better but then I never found a theme that fit
well with my 800x600 monitor and with full LS functions. I said
to myself if I can't get all the meter functions I rather use
the good old explorer which I have done configuring. Can't
believe so many themes only have top bars with all the displays
but no bottom bar options and it is terrible that all bottom
bars I saw are either *fat* or just like explorer.

Now I am very happy :) The only thing is that I am fantizing
to make the virtual desk have different wallpapers but I check
the doc on the VWM module and didn't find that function.
