[OT] User Desktop shots

R

R. L.

I finally got mine resized and uploaded. It is one of the
Hubble Ultra Deep Field shots of a patch of empty sky that
shows galaxies forming not too long after the bang. The
well defined galaxies are closer, but some of the faint red
ones in the background are thought to be images 12-13
billion years old in which the light only recently fell
upon the Hubble lenses.

This is a really cool looking desktop but I have a question about the
one program. NVU what is that and what does it do?

Desc. from home site.."Finally! A complete Web Authoring System for
Linux Desktop users as well as Microsoft Windows users to rival programs
like FrontPage and Dreamweaver.

Nvu (pronounced N-view, for a "new view") makes managing a web site a
snap. Now anyone can create web pages and manage a website with no
technical expertise or knowledge of HTML."

It's a new app. I'm trying.

If nothing else, computers make nice picture
frames for our desks :))

Yes, I think that wallpaper is pretty nice. I just got it
from a Litestep shell theme. Many of them have cool
wallpapers. I sometimes download the themes just for the
wallpapers :)

My desktop (clean mode ):

BlackBox for Windows and the Slit. The wallpaper was taken from a Evanescence
fan club site.

I use the slit as a 'Quick Launch' on steroids. Icons shown are from (in
order):

metapad, Firefox, SwCAD III (a circuit simulation program), mIRC, NetHack,
Slash'Em, IrfanView, Acrobat Reader, Gravity, MSN Messenger, WinRAR and 3
empty icons.

Nice Launchbar. I have YzDoc but don't use it often.
Looks like you might be somewhat a graphic person, too. I
found everyone having IrfanView or some graphic program
somewhere in sight but for me they are all stucked up
somewhere :)

If not in sight then at least in mind. I made KB shortcuts for about 30 of
my most used apps, web pages, drive folders, etc. Irfan View is Alt +V(iew)

I guess the only place I have for Iview is that I have it in
the sendto menu. Just to view some picture quickly with it.
I know that Iview has a lot of functions but I really don't
find a whole lot of use of it myself because I don't modify
picture a lot.

It's a commercial-ware, Remind-Me, I purchased before I even knew of
freeware. Back in my caveman days, before I was "enlightened". :D

Back when I bought Boxer Text Editor (which, at least, is quite good).
Sigh.

I do *lots* of picture conversion. So IrfanView is for me.
Also it's good for making slideshows.

I see, btw, they theme you are using looks very familiar. Is
it a Litestep theme?

BTW, since I love launchbars: I just made a screenshot of my standard
Launchbar/Windows desktop (with XP-ish icons):

http://www.arbornet.org/~neguinho/desk02.jpg ~130k

I set it to auto-hide. This way it becomes a thin line, and can appear by
passing the mouse over it.

No. It's BlackBox for Windows. I just moved on to LiteStep... BB for Windows
is very buggy :/

Don't know about BB, but Litestep has certainly gotten better
with the installer and OT2 standard. I uninstalled it when I
was using 98, but now in XP I played with it again, really not
bad. It usually save 10mb+ of memory resource when compared
to the explorer.exe process. However, some themes can be
buggy and I have not yet find a theme that I fully like.
