Option Button Problem

Hi

Grateful if anyone can help. I have a word document that my customer will
use to select which options he wants, so I have numerous Option Buttons in my
document for each service offered.

The problem I have is when the document is opened it goes straight to design
mode. When I uncheck design mode and try and click on any Option Button it
crashes Word.

Can anyone tell me how to overcome this irritating problem?

Thanks

The way to get rid of the problem is, unfortunately, not to use option
buttons.

The problem is that option buttons, and everything else from the
Control Toolbox, are ActiveX controls that are considered to be in the
same threat class as macros that could be viruses. The macro security
mechanism disables the controls in the same way that it disables
macros, and that causes Word to open the document in design mode.
There's an article about Control Toolbox objects at
<http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa140269(office.10).aspx>.

The most useful alternative is to turn the form into a protected form,
using the controls from the Forms toolbar instead. Replace each group
of option buttons with a dropdown field. After designing the form, use
the lock button on the Forms toolbar to activate its controls.

Unfortunately, there is no option button control in the Forms toolbar.
Although there's a way to make check boxes mutually exclusive, it uses
a macro to do so, and you're back to the same problem of macro
security.
