Opening Internet Shortcuts in New Window

My co-worker has placed an internet shortcut on his desktop. He would like
to know if it is possible to open the link in a new window when clicking on
it, instead of replacing the contents of already opened windows. He has
tried using a java-script command in the URL box of the Properties dialog box
of the shortcut. Thanks, in advance, for any help you are able to provide.
BTW, this really does pertain to my co-worker, not me ;-)

If your co-worker wants a shortcut on his desktop to open IE to a specific
site, say www.cnn.com, then have him right click on his desktop, select
New...Shortcut. The shortcut creation wizard will start. Have him navigate
to the iexplore.exe file and click on that - then add www.cnn.com after the
path - like this:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" www.cnn.com (note there is
a space after the close quotes)
Then on the next page of the shortcut wizard, he can type in the name for
his shortcut - in this case CNN.
When clicking on this desktop shortcut, it will open cnn.com in a new window
(and new instance) of IE.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

If you're *sure* that another program isn't causing this, these links may
help.

Is there a way to do this with a switch like "-new" or _blank. I would alsow
like to do this, but don't want it to be the "default action".

Hi,
You want a particular Internet Shortcut to always open a new window, right?

Try this:
Find "IExplore.exe" (probably in Program Files\Internet Explorer)
Right-click and drag IExplore.exe to the desktop and choose "Create
shortcut." Right-click that shortcut> Properties> Target, modify the Target
to include the URL.
Example:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"
becomes
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" www.yahoo.com
Note a space between EXE" and ww
Rename the shortcut if desired.

Or, it should also work to start with a target of www.yahoo.com then add the
path to IEXPLORE.EXE

Hope this helps,
Don

NO !
I didn't ask if you could "right click" a link. If you read this article,
or even the subject line you would see "Internet Shortcuts".

My question still is, is there a switch you can put in the URL line of an
internet shortcut to make this open in a new window.
