Internet Explorer want close in task manager?

I had asked this question once before but did not get any replies. I figured
I would try one more time just in case someone who has seen this before
possibly did not see this question before.

I have a co-worker who when he uses his internet explorer and closes it and
then opens task manager it still has it there as a running process. When he
first noticed this he opened task manager and he did not have internet
explorer open but it said he had it open about 10 times. Then we checked it
and as many times as you open and close it is how many it shows. For some
reason it is staying in the memory after it has been closed. We have ran an
updated Norton, Ad-Aware, SB search and destroy and also Adware Away. Does
anyone have an idea of why this is happening. I seems to have just started
lately.

Thanks

Do you have MSN desktop search installed? IF you do check for updates first
to see if an update will fix the problem.
Had the same problem/symptom myself on a Win2K machine. Ended up
un-installing and then dropping the user account to fix it.

I have the exact same problem. but, not only does IEXPLORE.EXE stay active
in the processes in task manager, now when attempting to launch IE half the
time nothing comes up on the screen but it is launching in processes!! only
once in a while does it actually launch. thank god someone else is having
the problems hopefully someone will know the answer.

Thank God others are having this problem. I was seriously considering
blasting away my C: drive and reinstalling XP from scratch. This just started
(for me) a couple of weeks ago. It's a real pain, especially when each of
those processes has to be End Task'd when you want to shut down the machine.
I would love to get this one fixed. Any ideas, anyone?
