OE message rules gone but still in registry

Kolin Tregaskes

My computer is doing a few odd things, one thing that has happened today is
that my message rules in Outlook Express have gone missing. They are appear
to be in the registry, but there are not within OE. This must have happened
while I was using OE (and not after installing anything, rebooting or upon
loading Windows). I have the latest version of Windows XP Pro (SP2) and all
the updates.

Maybe the link between my rules in the registry and OE has gone in some way?

Hi,

Follow the steps provided here and substitute Rules for Block Senders. If
this applies to Block Senders as well, use the link listed below. Good
luck!

1) Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT
2) Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{Guid}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0\Block Senders\Mail

Where the {} number is the GUID for the identity that you're using.

3) Right click on the Mail subkey and select Export. In the Save As dialog,
give the file a name and save it to the same folder the blocked_senders.vbs
file is in. In the Save as type: pull down, select 9x/NT4, or the script
won't work.

4) Double click the blocked_senders.vbs file and give it the name of the
file you saved in step 3. Note: If you did not save the REG file to the same
directory as the script, you will need to enter the full path to the REG
file.

5) The script will prompt you when finished. Your results will be in
blockedsenders.txt, in the same folder the VBS file is in.

Repeat the above steps for the News subkey, if desired.

Note: The results will not be sorted and there is no checking for
duplicates.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for your reply. Well I've done that, but what do I do with the
results text file?

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity
(File>Identities>Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages
from the old Identity before deleting it (File>Identities>Manage
Identities).

You may import the Message Rules and Blocked Senders list from your
non-functioning identity but you must modify the {GUID} to that of the new
Identity. See http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/backup/partial.htm
