Hello,

For some odd reason when I log into Windows XP Pro, a Explorer window opens
up in C:\Program Files\MSN\. Why does it do this and how can I stop it? I
had a quick look in the registry but can't find anything. Nor can I see
anything in Sys Config Util.

Any ideas?

Check your Start>Programs>Startup. Maybe you have a shortcut to that
folder there ?

Best regards,

:

Look in the startup programs directories:

c:\windows\Documents and settings\all users\start menu\programs\startup
c:\windows\Documents and settings\<your user name>\start
menu\programs\startup

If no reference there, go to start | run | type in msconfig. Look on
the start up tab for any references to the directory that's opening and
uncheck it.

If no joy there check in the registry in the keys were programs load at
startup:

Start | run | regedit

The keys are:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

If you find it listed there delete the entry.

For reference in editing the registry see this article:

Ooops..sorry wrong directory paths in the beginning. Should be:

c:\Documents and settings\all users\start menu\programs\startup
c:\Documents and settings\<your user name>\start menu\programs\startup

Remove the windows.
