ntfs.sys file corrupted

[Still Frustrated]

I have tried to reinstall windows xp but it starts
loading files & gets ti fat file system & I get file
ntfs.sys is corrupted press any key to continue & when key
is pressed It says setup failed press any key to restart,
I have also tried to format drive using max blast still
get message, tried using disc wizard still get message,
have tried using windows 98 start up disc & running fdisc
& formatting under dos partitions, windows xp will still
not load fully, gets to loading fat 32 files when message
comes up & set up fails, unhooked all hard drives but this
1 still same message, have installed known good hard drive
with windows xp pro & still get the same message. Could
this be some kind of virus in the bios causing this? When
booted with different hard drive which works in different
machine I get windows could not restart file missing or
corrupt: system32\drivers\NTFS.sys. when rebooting it wil
not get to screen to do repair. Any info is greatly
appreciated!!!

Next time, remember that Paragraphs are A Good Thing and run-on
sentences are not. Failure to install operating systems usually
indicates bad hardware. Start by testing the RAM with something like
Memtest86. Allow the test to run for a long time - all day - unless
errors show up immediately. If errors are reported, replace the RAM. If
the RAM is good, test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the
drive mftr. It does not matter if the hardware is new; it can still be
failing.

I may be, and probably am way off base on this one but do you have
Anti-Virus disabled in your BIOS settings? There are still computers out
there with BIOS Anti-Virus protection that isn't protection so much as
annoying

It's NOT an anti-virus function at all. It's merely a function to warn
you if something is about to write to the boot sector. Yes, certain
viruses will want to install there but as you noted, it's nice to turn
it off when doing any OS install as the install goes so fast it may just
phark up if that function is turned on.

I know with Win98 you couldn't install at all with it enabled. That's not
100% true with XP?
I haven't and don't plan to try it to find out

Actually either win98 or XP may install just fine with it enabled. It's
one of those things tho that you have to check if the install doesn't
work. Personally, it's a good
habit to disable it in advance anyway.

Interesting.
I've installed 98 (in the past of course it's all about XP now) on quite a
few machines and everytime I forgot to disable it the install would lock up.
Maybe just a case of "Wojo mojo" problems LOL

Although I'm a doc reader by habit, I always figured I'd be able to
install an OS without reading any docs so I dont even know if the
win98/xp install docs mention turning it off in advance.

If I remember correctly I had to find out on MS's website when Win98 first
came out to discover the origin of the problem since it was the 1st Windows
OS system and hence the 1st time a Boot Sector problem came to life. I don't
remember any documentation outside of an article on their website.
